AKBN staff joined the “Pink October” initiative, breast cancer awareness month around the world. The World Health Organization reports that breast cancer is one of the most prevalent diseases among women worldwide, with around 2.3 million new cases diagnosed each year.
“Pink October” is International Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Campaigns are being organized this month to encourage women to have regular check-ups, including mammography, which can help detect breast cancer early.
The National Screening Program, the extension of free mammography coverage throughout the territory, the inclusion of new modern drugs such as Herceptin in the list of drugs offered free of charge by the state, and the expansion of oncology cabinets in Regional Hospitals, have led to an increase in the number of diagnoses early, as well as reducing the number of fatalities.
